Our approach is not complicated. We lower the pressure, we build a relationship before we need it, and we treat every dog as an individual rather than a booking.
Behaviour led, never clinical
Danielle has worked in training and behaviour for 11 years, specialising in reactive dogs, and previously trained assistance dogs from Dogs for Autism. That background shapes everything here, from how the site is laid out to how a lead is handled at the gate.
What that means in practice is simple. We recognise the early signs that a dog has had enough, we adjust before things escalate rather than after, and we are realistic about what any individual dog can manage. We are a boarding retreat rather than a veterinary or behaviour clinic, so we will never make medical claims or promise to fix anything. What we offer is a stay that does not make things worse, and very often makes them a little better.
How we work
None of these are unusual ideas. What is unusual is having the space, the small team and the willingness to actually do them.
A dog who is worried cannot learn that a place is safe. Everything here starts by lowering arousal: quiet spaces, visual barriers, gentle background sound and time to do nothing at all. Once a dog is calm, everything else becomes possible.
We work with kindness and clear, consistent handling. Nobody here uses intimidation to get compliance, and nobody shouts. A dog who trusts the person holding the lead behaves entirely differently from one who does not.
We watch the whole dog rather than one behaviour. Appetite, sleep, posture, how quickly they recover from a surprise, whether they choose company. Small changes tell us a great deal before anything becomes obvious.
Patience is not a personality trait here, it is how we work. If a step needs repeating five times, we repeat it. Progress built on a dog coping tends to collapse at the point you most need it to hold.
Dogs are allowed to approach or not approach, to engage or to watch from a distance. Being able to make a decision is one of the fastest ways an anxious dog becomes comfortable somewhere new.
We tell you what we see, not what you would like to hear. If your dog has had a difficult morning, you will know. If we think boarding should be postponed, we will say so.
The heart of it
We are a family run business with a very small, dedicated team, and that is a deliberate choice. It means the people caring for your dog know them personally: their routine, their preferences, their triggers, the way they ask for space and the way they ask for company.
When you collect your dog, you should be able to have a real conversation about their week, because someone here paid attention to it. That is not a service level. It is the whole point.
What this looks like day to day
Meals at the times they expect, in the way they expect. Walks that suit their energy and their tolerance rather than a rota.
10 acres of woodland and 11 separate exercise areas mean a dog can have a full day out without ever meeting another dog.
Kongs, LickiMats and quiet scent work are offered when they suit the dog. Some dogs relax with them, others would rather sleep.
Photos and videos over WhatsApp through the stay, and a message if anything changes. You should not have to ask.
A meet and greet is the best way to understand how we work. Bring your dog exactly as they are.
